Eleven years ago, an eight year old girl vanished from a little town on the German-Czech border. Although her body was never found, and there was no blood or DNA evidence of any kind, a mentally handicapped young man is found guilty of murder. Now, due to an active murder case 32-year-old Chief Inspector Tanner gets in contact with the man who then was in charge of the case. Retired Inspector Altendorf could never let go of the case. The two very different characters gradually become closer, penetrating ever deeper into the labyrinth of what happened all those years ago.
