Der Schatz Alexander des Großen
When Alexander the Great died in 323 BC at the age of 32, he left behind an empire with unfathomable treasures which he created over just twelve years.
Hereditary disputes and fights shaped the following centuries. His commanders, or diadochs, shared the loot between themselves. The ancient historians Diodor and Strabon speak of a mysterious hidden mountain fortress called “Kyinda” in Kilikia – supposedly home to the treasure of diadoch Seleukus. A mere legend? So far no treasure has been discovered. We accompany the “Schliemann’s Heirs” team to Turkey and Kilikia, where on the mountain of Karasis, rising to almost 2,000 meters, the ruins of a huge fortress have been uncovered, with walls and towers almost 15 meters high.
