The German-German reunification and the events between 7 October 1989 (40th anniversary of the GDR) and the third October 1990, was and remains a surprising and breathtaking chapter in world history. That the successful unification of the previously split the German nation was not a fact but temporarily hung in the balance and found a number of international opposition, the look behind the political scenes.
Cinecentrum has compacted under the leadership of Ulrich Lenze the moving events of 1989/90 to an exciting, high-profile TV drama, the play interweaves dramatic scenes with documentary images of long ago and eyewitnesses accounts. The author and director Hans-Christoph Blumenberg succeeds perfectly authentic, which show extremely interesting "story behind the story". For this he took and his team of scientific staff during their research on 60 interviews with witnesses, including Helmut Kohl, Hans-Dietrich Genscher, Egon Krenz, Heinz Kessler, Günter Schabowski, Mikhail Gorbachev, Valentin Falin, George Bush, James Baker, Condoleeza Rice and others
shine in the leading roles include Peter Ustinov as a Soviet envoy Igor Maksimychev, Lambert Hamel as Chancellor Kohl, Udo Samel when Gorbachev, Michael Mendl Marshal Akhromeyev, Peter then as a Stasi chief Erich Mielke, Jean-Francois Balmer as President Mitterand and Nicole Heesters Thatcher as the "Iron Lady".
The docu-drama is broadcast in two parts.
The first part describes the events in East Germany until the fall of the Berlin Wall on 9 November 1989. The second part shows that international power and intrigue Societies dedicated to the two German states and reveals how close the decision was - not least in Russia itself, where in 1990 a threatened coup against Gorbachev.
