How did Hilter usurp power in Germany? Early in 1933, it was far from certain that the Nazis would remain in power for long or had the people on their side. It was not Hitler's charisma, but cunning, violence, and propaganda that paved the way to the state's institutions for the Nazis.
The second part of the series examines the legends surrounding the 1933 fire at the Reichstag, and recollects with the aid of newly discovered sources, how Hitler used force and violence to get rid of democracy in Germany.
