Der Eiswanderer - Arved Fuchs

Arved Fuchs made the adventure into a career. The fifty year old North German has crossed Greenland, Cape Horn and sailed through the dangerous sea, circled the world. He is the only one who has gone in one year to the North Pole and South Pole. But his goal is not records, but an intense experience and the satisfaction of a deep curiosity. 1979, on his first Arctic expedition, Fox spent several months with the Inuit. From them he learns, at temperatures of minus 50 degrees, with snow and cold to survive, and he begins to love this icy, inhospitable land. In 1989 he crossed together with Reinhold Messner Antarctica on foot. This 92-day forced march made him known, but the subsequent media frenzy drives a deep wedge between him and Messner. Dozens of expeditions to follow on your own, whether in the footsteps of Shackleton in the Arctic Ocean, whether with an old whaling ship through the Northeast Passage, whether around the American continent: the fox has survived all the dangers because he always the risk accurately calculated. And he is - as friends attest - it remained enviably normal.
